Workshop Tip

Accessing the high pressure fuel pump requires removal of the front timing cover. As the timing cover is sealed using RTV sealant (mastic) rather than a conventional gasket, many workshops replace the timing cover during reassembly.

While the timing cover is removed, it's also an ideal time to replace the front crankshaft oil seal to help prevent future oil leaks.
